Elsner Windancer KNX-GPS
The Windancer weather station integrates essential weather and outdoor data into a single KNX-compatible device. It offers functionalities for sun protection, wind alarms, temperature readings, rain alerts, and time switch logic.
Sun Protection
Equipped with three sun sensors, the Windancer measures brightness from the North, East, and West. Together with the integrated GPS receiver, it accurately tracks brightness throughout the day. This allows the weather station to help control shades at precise angles based on the sun's height and direction. As a result, the slats can be automatically adjusted to prevent direct sunlight from entering the building. Users can even define how far the sun is allowed to shine into the room in different seasons of the year, effectively controlling the shadow edge on the floor, based on the season.
Wind Alarm
When a wind alarm is triggered, the weather station can automatically send a message to retract blinds and awnings and blocks manual operation to prevent storm damage. Additionally, wind speed data is often used for ventilation control via KNX. Unlike other weather stations, the Windancer measures wind speed mechanically using a cup cross anemometer, a method required by some project specifications. This approach is cost-effective because it utilises standard components and eliminates the need for individual calibration.
Time Switch Logic
Time switching is crucial for controlling roller shutters and blinds. The Windancer KNX-GPS model implements this functionality in two stages. First, daily event sequences are programmed into the weekly time switch. These sequences are then combined with weather alerts, such as wind or rain, in the internal logic module to ensure timely responses. The calendar timer further allows for event scheduling based on seasonal changes, thus restricting actions within specified date ranges.
