The Gira S1 is a security and access gateway that allows simple access from a device outside a property into the KNX environment, enabling control from the Gira app as well as reprogramming and diagnosis of KNX systems from ETS in a secure manner, without the need to open unsecure tunnels in the router.

With this device, when used alongside the Gira X1 or Gira HomeServer, you can connect to your home from anywhere in the world – to switch lights on and off, close blinds, or adjust heating. The device ensures encrypted remote access to your Smart Home via the Gira Smart Home app, fully compliant with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR); the server is located in Germany. The Gira S1 allows connection to the building through Gira's own portal, leveraging the stringent data security regulations in Germany. Additionally, the Gira S1 offers secure access to the KNX bus, enhancing protection against unauthorized data access.

In addition to providing secure remote access to your home, the Gira S1 can also be utilized for remote maintenance by a professional electrician. You maintain complete control over access permissions. Simply launch the Gira Smart Home app or the Gira HomeServer app, and the Gira S1, working with the Gira device portal, handles the rest. The remote access symbol in the status bar on your mobile phone indicates a secure connection. You determine whether your Smart Home can be accessed. Using the app or a pushbutton sensor, you can specifically approve each instance of remote maintenance to be carried out by the electrical engineer.

With the Gira S1, integrating external services into your Smart Home is effortless. This facilitates easy linking of your smart home with services such as Amazon Alexa and the Google Assistant.

Gira S1 ensures secure remote access, communication, and data. This is why it has been awarded the “Smart Home – Information Security Tested” certification by the VDE Institute. The Institute confirms the effectiveness of security measures in preventing remote interception and manipulation of communications.

Software update: Gira S1 with OpenVPN.

An additional secure connection route for Gira S1 modules via OpenVPN is now available. This provides you and your specialist partner with even more options for safe and remote access. For instance, if you own a photovoltaic system, you can easily monitor its status from afar. Moreover, you can activate or block VPN access for your specialist partner at any time. Your partner can then check and adjust KNX installations and other systems, such as telephones, cameras, or networks.
