Understanding Serial Numbers for Device Support and RMA

In the rare event there is a problem with a device, and it needs support or to be returned there's a few steps that ensure this happens seamlessly and as quickly as possible.

The best way to do this from the very start is to obtain the serial number, from the serial number there's a lot of information that distributors and manufacturers can work out.

Such information as:

  • Manufacture Date
  • Software and Firmware Versions
  • OEM Produced Products

As a part of the lvory Egg Australia policy for support and warranty issues, we require the serial number where possible at the very start.

There are two main ways to get serial numbers:

  1. On the device or packaging with KNX and non KNX devices. A lot of the time the serial number will be printed as part of the manufacturing process this is usually a sticker or printing that is on the side or somewhere on the back of the device, alternatively and also conjunction this will come on the packaging.
  2. With KNX devices - with KNX devices we can also find the serial number using the ETS software, easiest way to do this he's through a line scan or device information read out. We have detailed this through a comprehensive short video below.
